Laurent
Mullen Co-Owner of
Let’s Dance in Rhythm
It
was while attending the many acting performances during his
father’s theatrical career that as a wide-eyed boy,
Laurent Mullen got bit by the bug. Since then, Mr. Mullen has
performed extensively in professional theater, television,
film and dance as an actor, dancer and vocalist. He is a longstanding
member of both the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation
of Television and Radio Actors. In New York City, he studied
acting in the Meisner technique with Philip Gushee from the
Neighborhood Playhouse and voice with Theadora Andreas. Mr.
Mullen’s theatrical experience includes daytime television,
commercials and industrial film roles.
A desire for higher learning inspired Mr. Mullen to earn a
BA -History from UCLA and then an MS -Education in 1996, from
the University of New Haven. He later taught high school Social
Studies in Guilford, Connecticut for several years. A successful
career in sales and marketing with YellowBook USA then followed.
But the arts kept calling him back.
Laurent
Mullen began ballet dancing with Connecticut Ballet when
he was 17, but took a long break from it before his return
to Connecticut in 1996 when he joined New England Ballet Company
as a Principal dancer. By the time he retired in 2005, Mr.
Mullen danced more than 18 roles over 8 years including Snow
Prince, Sugar Plum Cavalier, Harlequin and Arabian Prince in
Nutcracker, the Prince in Cinderella, Prince Ivan in Stravinsky’s
Firebird and Romeo in Romeo and Juliet. Mr. Mullen received
his greatest satisfaction delighting area school children for
many years dancing the Wolf in Prokofiev’s Peter and
the Wolf. He also served as New England Ballet Company’s
Executive Director for four years before leaving to become
co-owner of Let’s Dance in Rhythm in Branford, Connecticut.
Mr.
Mullen began ballroom dancing 8 years ago when current business
partner Sue Woods recruited him to dance Theater Arts
with her. After intensive training, competing and performing,
he joined the staff of Let’s Dance in Rhythm as a part-time
ballroom dance instructor. Mr. Mullen recently joined Sue Woods
and Karen Pfrommer as owners of LDIR. He co-produced the successful
LDIR showcase, “Shall We Dance?” in 2005. Embracing
the world of ballroom dance is a natural progression in his
professional artistic development and he is also striving to
encourage more people to rediscover its beauty through new
Youth Classes and Wedding Dance Programs.
